The $10,000 Grant Will Be Presented on Friday With Len Smolburd

San Luis Obispo, CA. February 14, 2018 - The Salvation Army San Luis Obispo Corps was awarded a $10,000 grant from The Community Foundation  San Luis Obispo County. The grant, part of the Opportunity to Thrive initiative, will support services supporting low-income individuals and families, as well as the general homeless population, in San Luis Obispo, Edna Valley and Avila Beach. Specifically, it will fund one-time transitional support such as rent assistance, professional attire for its clothing closet, and transportation assistance. All of these services are designed to provide clients the upward mobility to succeed.

The check will be presented to The Salvation Army San Luis Obispo Corps on Friday, February 16, at 10:00 AM at The Salvation Army offices (815 Islay Street, San Luis Obispo, CA, 93401). The Community Foundation's Len Smolburd will be attending, as well as The Salvation Army officers Lt. Henry Gonzalez and Lt. Vanessa Gonzalez.

Since 1891, The Salvation Army San Luis Obispo Corps has served the Central Coast with services that support low income families such as housing resources, rental assistance and basic needs like food and shelter. In 2016, The SLO Corps provided 1,018 bags of groceries, 8,591 articles of clothing, rental assistance to 19 households, 1,020 toys and gifts to the holidays, and 265 referrals to other resources. In 2018, The San Luis Obispo Corps expects to serve approximately 4,000 individuals.
