Final Tally of Meal Service During Santa Barbara Storms
The heavy rains in Santa Barbara subsided last week, avoiding most of the major damage that was anticipated for the recently burn-scarred areas. The American Red Cross opened a shelter at the Earl Warren Showgrounds to receive local residents following the mandatory evacuation orders. From March 21 through 23, The Salvation Army provided food service at the shelter. The final tally from these three days of feeding at the Earl Warren Showgrounds is as follows:
- March 21: 130 Meals
- March 22: 142 Meals
- March 23: 30 Meals (last day)
In total, The Salvation Army Santa Barbara Corps delivered approximately 302 meals during the three day storm. On March 22, the last night of the shelter, approximatley 51 people were sleeping overnight in Ventura and Santa Barbara shelters. The Salvation Army also provided emotional and spiritual care to 17 individuals.
