National Donut Day Eating Contest Takes Off on the Flight Deck of USS Midway
Top Competitive Eaters Convene on Historic Aircraft Carrier to Participate in The Salvation Army’s National Donut Day Donut Eating Championship
SAN DIEGO, CA – Top-ranked female competitive eater Miki Sudo squares off with the legendary Matt Stonie (nearly 8 million YouTube subscribers) on the flight deck of the USS Midway located at 910 N. Harbor Dr., San Diego on Friday, June 7 for The Salvation Army’s National Donut Day World Donut Eating Championship. These two competitive eating juggernauts will fend off all challengers as The Salvation Army celebrates National Donut Day and remembers America’s veterans. The Salvation Army’s long history of support to the men and women in uniform began in 1918 when more than 200 “Donut Lassies,” traveled to the fields of France and served the comforts of home (donuts and coffee) to soldiers during World War I.
More than 100 years later, The Salvation Army still serves veterans with shelter, counseling and employment services. Donut Shops from San Diego to L.A. displaying the National Donut Day poster in their shops on June 7 will participate in raising funds for The Salvation Army’s many programs designed exclusively to help our veterans. These programs include nights of shelter, substance abuse rehabilitation, job placement and counseling. There will be music, recognition of a World War II veteran, free donuts and the crowning of a donut eating world champion.
Donut Day guests arriving at the USS Midway on June 7 between 9 am and 10 am on June 7th can enjoy the Donut Eating Contest for free on the flight-deck and spend the remainder of their time touring the amazing USS Midway Museum.
