The Salvation Army’s Southern California social service and community outreach centers are continuing to see an increase in need during this economic downturn. Operation Feed Our Families will continue to meet this need with YOUR help.

PROGRAM HIGHLIGHT

 August 11, 2008 Pasadena –

Pasadena is an all-American community better known for beautiful green lawns and roses than for struggling families. Yet, many of Pasadena’s families have been pushed to the brink with layoffs and the increasing cost of food, gas and housing.

These families, part of the “hidden poor”, are working families sidelined by the loss of a job, illness or the sudden increase in cost for food, gasoline and other necessities.

Patrick O. Riley, Director of Social Services at the Pasadena Tabernacle, says they have received a marked increase in requests for assistance.  31 more clients came in July of this year than in July of 2007. Overall, Pasadena’s social services office aided 353 individuals in July 2008.

The Pasadena Tabernacle is committed to serving ALL those in need with the help of Operation Feed Our Families! Using this grassroots initiative, the Pasadena is rallying in support. The Tabernacle has already collected 100 lbs in food and received cash donations.

Across the southland, from Pasadena to Simi Valley to South Los Angeles – families are hurting. Please join The Salvation Army in Operation Feed Our Families efforts to provide relief during this crisis.

Help us meet this additional need and reach our goal of serving an additional 40,000 families in 2008

A donation of $100 can feed a family of four for a week. It can also mean the difference between having to choose to pay an electric bill, putting gas in the car for work, or putting food on the table.
