The Salvation Army’s Southern California social service and community outreach centers are continuing to see an increase in need during this economic downturn. Operation Feed Our Families will continue to meet this need with YOUR help. PROGRAM HIGHLIGHT August 4, 2008 Simi Valley –
This family-oriented community has been hit hard by the rise in foreclosures, increasing gas prices and rising cost of food.
The Salvation Army Service Extension Office in Simi Valley has noticed a dramatic increase in the number of families coming to them for help with food, gas, utility and rental assistance.
According to our Service Extension & Emergency Disaster Director, June Loo – In 2007, our caseworkers aided 200 families in Simi Valley. As of June 28, 2008, caseworkers were providing assistance to 600 families in Simi Valley. A 200% increase in services!
With the help of Operation Feed Our Families, The Salvation Army is committed to serving these additional 400 families in Simi Valley and the thousands of families requesting help throughout the Southland.
The story in Simi Valley is one we hear repeatedly from the communities we serve in and around Los Angeles - including Glendale, Compton, South Los Angeles, Burbank and Pomona.
Help us meet this additional need and reach our goal of serving an additional 40,000 families in 2008 |
