Winter is behind us and summer is fast approaching and as it does every year, The Salvation Army will be operating summer camps in the Malibu Canyon area of Los Angeles for underprivileged children from all over Southern California. More than 2,000 young people from ages 7-16 will have the opportunity to participate in arts and crafts, music, sports, drama, and nature study. But they can’t do it without your help.
The Salvation Army is grateful for the support it continues to receive from the Los Angeles Times Family fund. The $200,000 grant from the Times to the camps of The Salvation Army will go a long way in making the camping experience a reality for many inner-city youths. But individuals may help as well. This June 7th, The Salvation Army will be holding a 10k/5k run to help raise funds for the camps. There will be a challenging trail run for the experienced runner as well as a more sedate nature walk for families with little ones. This is the only 5K run scheduled in Southern California on that date. So come out to the beautiful Santa Monica Mountains, enjoy a complimentary brunch, and make a difference in the life of a child who might not otherwise be able to get to camp this summer. For more information regarding the camps and how you can support them at this year’s 10K/5K Run as a title sponsor, group, or individual, call Kasey Tribble at (213) 607-7313 or visit the Run’s website at
