The art of Raymond Berrellez to be displayed at Alegria

     Alegria is The Salvation Army’s state-of-the-art HIV/AIDS housing community located in the Silverlake area of Los Angeles. In keeping with the Village’s commitment to giving an elevated quality of life to families impacted by HIV/AIDS, Alegria is about to embark on a program where visual art will encourage thought and conversation between residents and staff and also provide an opportunity for local artists to show their work and become more intimately involved with this essential social service program.

The Art for Shelter program will also serve to help beautify the public spaces of Alegria, give it a more inviting presence, and foster more involvement in the Village with the local residents of Silverlake.
 Executive Director of Alegria, Paul Hebblethwaite sees the project as a unique way to bring artists and service providers together for a common cause. “I originally studied art photography as a college student,"Hebblethwaite commented,"and I came away with an appreciation of art’s effect on people.”
 The first artist to be featured in this program is Raymond Berrrellez, an artist who explores the abstract shapes of geology, the night sky, and the human body. The opening reception for the exhibition is February 23rd 2008 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm and the exhibition will run through April 30th.
