Actors Kevin Sorbo and Joe Mantegna The Southern California Division recently held two star-studded back-to-back fundraising events. The media was abuzz the evening of May 30th as such stars as the Los Angeles Clippers’ Elton Brand and Olden Polynese joined media favorite Reggie Bush for a Celebrity Bowling Tournament. Everyone on hand had a great time, and divisional commander Lt. Colonel Paul Bollwahn was seen bowling three strikes during his first five frames. All funds raised during the event, held at Torrance’s Lucky Strike Lanes, will assist the South Los Angeles Center for Worship & Service.
Many of the previous evening’s celebrities and media arrived the next morning at The Salvation Army’s Inaugural Celebrity Invitational Golf Classic & Awards Banquet, held at Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes. An extended list of celebrities were in attendance including: Donald T. Sterling, John Salley, Keith Carradine, Idris Elba, Greg Itzin, Richard Karn, Alfonso Ribeiro, Randolph Duke, Ray Lewis, Kevin Sorbo, and Joe Mantegna.
After completing the entertaining action-packed tournament, players and guests attended the evening’s dinner honoring former Los Angeles Mayor Richard Riordan. NBC4’s Fritz Coleman was Master of Ceremonies. Lt. Colonel Paul Bollwahn opened the evening with a Greeting & Invocation. John Salley then led a very lively auction, raising tens of thousands of additional funds for the division.
Steve Allen, Executive Director of Development, then gave a presentation highlighting The Salvation Army’s various programs. A tribute was then paid to Richard Riordan. Riordan was his usual funny self when he accepted The William Booth Award for his outstanding contribution to the education and future of the youth of today and the leaders of tomorrow. |
