Army’s Southern California Division Unveils The World’s Largest Kettle

ImageThe Salvation Army, Southern California Division, celebrated the official start of the Christmas Fundraising season by unveiling The World’s Largest Kettle. The historic unveiling took place during the division’s annual Kettle Kickoff celebration, Nov. 20 at the Los Angeles Farmers Market.  The giant kettle weighed in at 300 pounds, and stood nine feet tall with a width of 13 feet. 

Johnny Grant, Honorary Mayor of Hollywood, performed master of ceremony duties, while KNBC-TV’s Fritz Coleman unveiled the kettle. The event featured performances by Lindsay Price, James Torme’ and The Salvation Army band.

The program drew a large appreciative crowd and was attended by a number of special guests, including: LA City Councilman Tom LaBonge; William Sanderson of “Deadwood”; Shelley Morrison of “Will & Grace”; James Hyde of “Passions”; Cathy Cahlin Ryan of “The Shield”; Michelle Clunie of “Without a Trace”: Katie Cleary and Trisha Kara of “Deal or No Deal”; Rob Pinkston and Devon Werkheiser of “Ned’s Declassified”; Erin Sanders of “Zoey 101”; Rachel Fox of “Desperate Housewives” and AJ Trauth of “Wild Hearts”.  

The Salvation Army’s kettle tradition dates back to 1891, making it a 115 year tradition.
