Salvation Army friends who enjoy making others smile contributed more than $130,000 at the third annual Night of Comedy on Nov. 1, 2006 at the Laugh Factory in Hollywood. The funds will benefit the Salvation Army’s Westwood Transitional Village and The Bessie Pregerson Child Development Center, which were created through the shared vision of The Salvation Army, Judge Harry Pregerson, government agencies, community leaders and countless volunteers.
Comedian Bob Saget hosted the event for the third year. Previous events have included Howie Mandel, Norm McDonald, Paul Rodriguez and Fritz Coleman. This year, Southern California Divisional Commander Paul Bollwahn and Executive Director of Development Steve Allen presented Sharon Pregerson with a special plaque to say “thank you” for her hard work in making the night such a success. The Village provides quality transitional family housing and the kind of job and educational counseling that empowers formerly homeless families to live in dignity and to succeed. Preference is given to United States Veterans, who comprise 40 percent of families. The Child Development Center is a state licensed pre-school that operates year round and is free for the residents of The Village.
