The Southern California Division recently held two star-studded back-to-back fundraising events. The media was abuzz the evening of May 30th as such stars as the Los Angeles Clippers’ Elton Brand and Olden Polynese joined media favorite Reggie Bush for a Celebrity Bowling Tournament. Everyone on hand had a great time, and divisional commander Lt. Colonel Paul Bollwahn was seen bowling three strikes during his first five frames. All funds raised during the event, held at Torrance’s Lucky Strike Lanes, will assist the South Los Angeles Center for Worship & Service.

In 1865, the Reverend William Booth with his wife Catherine, started a mission to the poorest, most hurting segment of London’s underclass.  Their purpose was to present the unconditional love God showed to all humankind through His son Jesus Christ, to serve the needs of the neediest, and to defend the cause of the least, the last, and the lost of society.

Southern California Division Celebrates 120th Year in Los Angeles Print E-mail
The Salvation Army Southern California Division celebrated its 120th Anniversary in Los Angeles during National Salvation Army Week.  The Salvation Army’s presence in Los Angeles dates back to May 8, 1887 when the first open-air street meeting took place at the corner of Temple and Broadway. To this day, a plaque remains embedded in the sidewalk commemorating this historic event.
