 Volunteers prepare food distributionFamilies receive food and toys for Christmas

    In a show of almost unprecedented cooperation, The Salvation Army in Southern California combined forces with other non-profit organizations to host one of the largest food distributions in the nation. More than 4,000 families registeredat The Salvation Army’s Siemon Family Youth and Community Center in South Los Angeles in order to receive boxes of food, personal care items, and toys for their children.
    With the help of the stalwart Feed The Children organization which has partnered multiple times with The Salvation Army here in Southern California, as well as Feed 333, HUB, and the National Basketball Players Association, these thousands of people in need were given a special Christmas gift.

THE GIVING KETTLE IS HERE: INTERACTIVE DONATION WEB PAGE MAKES DEBUT

Though there are dozens of traditional red kettles throughout the Southland like the one you see above, The Southern California Division of The Salvation Army has introduced a new, high tech fundraising tool "The Giving Kettle." This latest inovation is designed to make internet giving fun, informative, and convenient.  When donors go to thegivingkettle.com they will be able to manipulate an animated hand and coins of various monetary values which they can deposit into the giving kettle. Donors will then see firsthand what their $25, $50, $100, $200, or $500 donation actually translates into as personal stories of real people who have been helped by The Salvation Army, will pop up in windows on this new web page.

ROTARY BELL RINGING LUNCHEON SUCCESS

The California Club in downtown Los Angeles was the setting for this year’s Rotary Club sponsored bell ringing luncheon on behalf of The Salvation Army. Fritz Coleman, award winning weatherman for KNBC TV, Rotarian, and long-time friend and supporter of The Salvation Army, emceed the event.

This year marked a substantial departure for this event from the past. More than thirty tables were “sold-out” with sponsorships and donations which helped the Southern California Division raise more than $65,000 in one day!

SALVATION ARMY KICKS OFF KETTLE SEASON 2008
Kettle Kick off honoree Ed RoskiThe Salvation Army launched the official start of the holiday season with its annual “Kettle Kickoff” held at the Farmers Market on November 24, in Los Angeles. There was the traditional Salvation Army band music, performances by the Pasadena Tabernacle Children’s Choir, and a host of celebrities on hand to ring in the beginning this special time of year.

Major Victor A. Leslie, Divisional Commander of The Southern California Division of The Salvation Army presented a lifetime achievement award to Mr. Edward Roski Jr. for his many years of philanthropic work. Mr. Roski, a man who has been instrumental in reinvigorating downtown Los Angeles with such projects as the Staples Center, has dedicated much time and treasure to a variety of charitable causes. Phil Jackson, championship winning coach of the Los Angeles Lakers was also on hand to endorse Mr. Roski getting the award.

Live Jonas Brothers Performance at Dallas Cowboys' Game to Kick-Off Red Kettle Campaign

Jonas Brothers Appeal for Donations Online during Economic Slowdown to Support America's Longest-Running Annual Fundraiser

 

Irving, TX (November 26, 2008) - Tomorrow, multi-platinum recording artists and international stars, Jonas Brothers, will kick-off The Salvation Army's 2008 Red Kettle Campaign with a live, nationally-televised halftime show performance during the Dallas Cowboys Thanksgiving Day game.

Coverage begins on the Fox network at 1:15 pm PST.  Jonas Brothers will also be hosting their own virtual red kettle for one week beginning today.
